Objetivo: Caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico, clínico e cirúrgico dos pacientes que apresentaram infecção do sítio cirúrgico observando níveis glicêmicos no pós-operatório. Métodos: Estudo descritivo, retrospectivo, desenvolvido a partir da consulta aos prontuários no Serviço de Controle de Infecção Relacionada à Assistência à Saúde, em um hospital escola, no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2017. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um instrumento previamente estruturado e analisados usando o programa Excel 2010. A pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa sob número CAAE: 89198218.1.0000.5013, com o número do parecer: 2.769.243. Resultados: Dos 46 pacientes cirúrgicos que desenvolveram infecção, 65,21% (30) não eram diabéticos e não apresentaram alteração glicêmica, identificando 16 (34,78%) pacientes que apresentaram altos níveis glicêmicos ou eram portadores de diabetes mellitus. Conclusão: Tais resultados reforçam a importância do controle glicêmico em pacientes com extremos de idade devido às alterações glicêmicas ocasionadas pelo estresse fisiológico ou diabetes mellitus.
