The paper presents the special meanings and many-sided implications that can be conjectured from the use of a stative verb in the progressive, and the linguistic difficulties encountered in analysing McDonald’s slogan. It reviews the behaviour of to love when tested for stativeness and concludes that as a “progressive stative” verb it can be cleverly exploited for fresh emotional implications.
The paper analyses the presence of future expressions (‘be going to’, ‘will’, ‘shall’, the Present tense progressive and Present tense simple with future uses) in the English textbooks for levels A1 and A2 recommended by the Romanian Ministry of Education for use in the primary and lower secondary classes in Romania.
