Evidence has shown that organizations seldom achieve the competitive advantage offered by supply chain management technique. This may be attributed to the fact that current methodologies for analyzing supply chains are not sufficiently comprehensive, particularly when it comes to understanding the complexities of SCM and organization performance in an unified context. In addition, researchers have not comprehensively answered key questions such as what are the linkages between different dimensions of SCM and what are the linkages between the underlying dimensions of SCM and SCM performance. Gap also exists in terms of understanding of the relationship between SCM performance measures and organizational performance measures. The study seeks to address these issues. Based on a comprehensive literature review, a theoretical framework and propositions are derived. In culmination, the description for possible findings and implications of the study for managers is considered. Overall, we argue that increased interaction between important constituents of supply chain management will enhance the organization's ability to meet desired goals. Finally, directions for future research are also presented.
Online students face numerous challenges in successfully completing doctoral programmes. The aim of this article is to explore the best practices that can be employed by faculty to support students in achieving this. It also seeks to categorize and identify the best practices emerging from literature into themes. An exploratory research method was used involving a two-stage process, which had both broad and specific levels. Literature on online learning and doctoral education from the past 22 years (1993-2015) was reviewed. Eleven major journal databases were searched to identify articles for this review. In addition, a list of key journals that published studies on online doctoral pedagogies was also used to source relevant literature. This article reported five major themes that have emerged from the literature review, including the provision of timely and goodquality feedback, providing continuous support and promoting peer-to-peer facilitation, the pairing of new and experienced faculties, providing supportive mentoring to students and developing sensitivity to cultural issues, that could influence successful online doctoral study. This research is unique because there has not been any systematic review of literature that explores faculty best practices within a unified framework in an online doctoral programme context. A comprehensive understanding of existing literature can help establish important areas with regard to supporting the study of online doctoral students. Conclusion and directions of future research are also presented.
Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to empirically investigate the relationships between advanced manufacturing technology (AMT), absorptive capacity, mass customization (MC) capability, competitive advantage, and organizational performance measures.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a literature review, a theoretical framework is derived. Structural equation modeling was chosen for the empirical analysis based on the focus of the research. Data collection was conducted from 232 Indian manufacturing managers.
Findings
The findings indicate that absorptive capacity has a positive impact on MC capability. Also, MC capability mediated the relationship between AMT and the financial and market performance. Furthermore, AMT positively impacted MC capability, and MC capability positively impacted both time to market and financial and market performance. AMT was not found to have a significant impact on financial and market performance.
Originality/value
The current study is meaningful and unique in that no study has investigated the linkages between AMT, absorptive capacity, MC capability and organization performance and competitive advantage measures in a unified context. Such investigations are important because the results will encourage managers to invest in developing these mechanisms, which in turn will influence firm’s ability to implement MC practices and yield benefits such as improved performance and competitive advantage.
In today's world organizations strive to achieve competitive advantage. To this end, mass customization (MC) as a source of competitive advantage has generated a lot of interest. Gap however exists in terms of exploring factors enabling the successful development of MC. The current study examines the role of organizational learning capabilities in the development of MC. In addition workplace spirituality has been known to influence organizational learning capability. Workplace spirituality also impacts overall employee as well as organizational outcomes and practices. The goal of the study is to explore the linkages between the dimensions of workplace spirituality, organizational learning capability and MC. Based on a comprehensive literature review, a theoretical framework and propositions are derived. The findings are expected to provide guidance for firms to effectively develop MC practices.
