Resumen: Se presenta el uso del teléfono celular y tabletas en jóvenes entre 15 y 21 años de Quintín Arauz, Centla, Tabasco, poblado rural e indígena del sureste de México con un alto índice de jóvenes escolarizados. Coexisten en el lugar el uso cotidiano de Internet y las actividades tradicionales: pesca y agricultura, además de las actividades lúdicas y de esparcimiento como jugar fútbol e ir a nadar al río. La investigación explora desde el enfoque utópico y distópico el reciente uso de tecnologías de información en contextos rurales y documenta "a ras de suelo" cómo se vive la promesa de conectividad; aporta evidencias de las capacidades desiguales de las y los jóvenes rurales ante esta eventualidad prometedora y abierta, designándolos como consumidores.
