The purpose of this study was to test a process model of youths' information management. Using three waves of longitudinal data collected from 982 youths, we modeled parents' positive and negative reactions to disclosure predicting youths' feelings about their parents, in turn predicting youths' disclosure and secrecy about their daily activities. Gender, age, and psychopathic personality traits were examined as potential moderators. The results showed that parents' negative reactions were associated with increases in youths' feeling controlled and decreases in youths' feeling connected to their parents, which in turn, predicted increased secrecy and decreased disclosure. In contrast, parents' positive reactions predicted increased feeling connected to parents, which in turn predicted increased disclosure. Moreover, these predictive pathways were modified by youths' psychopathic personality traits. Our results are consistent with a transactional model suggesting that how parents react to youths' disclosure affects youths' future decisions to provide their parents with information about their daily activities. The results point to the importance of considering youths' feelings and characteristics.
The aim of the study was to explore adolescents' perceptions of their parents' behaviors that inhibited or facilitated adolescents' self-disclosures to them. Four focus groups with 16 girls and 16 boys from Croatia (13-14 year-olds) were conducted. Results indicate that adolescents perceive their self-disclosures to be influenced by a variety of specific parental actions and reactions in disclosure-related situations. According to adolescents' views, not only can parents hinder adolescent's disclosure by unfavorable reactions, but they can also prompt adolescent to disclose by behaving in certain manner. Identified parental behaviors and emotional states (labeled as "inviters", "inhibitors", "negative reactions" and "positive reactions"), are discussed in terms of contemporary perspectives on optimal parenting based on children's psychological needs and children's rights.
Cilj istraživanja bio je, na reprezentativnom uzorku, ispitati uvjerenja odraslih građana Hrvatske o poželjnom odnosu roditelja prema djeci mlađoj od 3 godine te provjeriti mogu li se ona predviđati na temelju niza sociodemografskih varijabli. Rezultati su pokazali da je, uz najzastupljenije uvjerenje o važnosti roditeljske uključenosti, visoko zastupljeno i uvjerenje o važnosti poslušnosti i podređenosti djeteta odraslima. Manje su zastupljena uvjerenja o opravdanosti neodgovaranja na djetetov plač, uvjerenje o opravdanosti tjelesnoga kažnjavanja te uvjerenje o nepotrebnosti davanja objašnjenja zahtjeva i zabrana djetetu (indukcije). Spomenuta uvjerenja mogu se predviđati na temelju sociodemografskih obilježja sudionika, kao što su, prije svega, stupanj obrazovanja, a zatim spol, dob i prihodi te broj članova kućanstva. Ovaj skup sociodemografskih prediktora najslabije predviđa uvjerenje o važnosti roditeljske uključenosti, a najbolje uvjerenje o nepotrebnosti indukcije. Kod slabije obrazovanih i starijih sudionika, s manjim prihodima, izraženija su uvjerenja o odnosu prema djetetu koja ne odgovaraju suvremenim znanstvenim spoznajama o primjerenoj roditeljskoj potpori ostvarenju djetetova razvojnog potencijala.Ključne riječi: uvjerenja o roditeljskim postupcima, roditeljstvo, sociodemografska obilježja, tjelesno kažnjavanje, rani razvoj djece Ninoslava Pećnik, Pravni fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Studijski centar socijalnog rada,
