Objetivo: Analisar o aumento de casos de Síndrome de Burnout entre os profissionais de saúde durante a pandemia do COVID-19, identificando seus efeitos, causas, consequências e prevenção. Revisão bibliográfica: O Burnout pode ser entendido como uma reação ao estresse excessivo ao ambiente profissional. As razões que desencadeiam a Síndrome de Burnout estão compreendidas entre os conflitos interpessoais, o desgaste psicológico e o baixo suporte emocional. Com a eclosão da pandemia da COVID-19, revelaram-se novos fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de Burnout. Entre as principais causas estão o medo do colaborador em ser estigmatizado socialmente por sua atuação direta com o vírus e a preocupação contínua em transmitir a doença para seus familiares. O isolamento social e a necessidade do afastamento familiar impostos pela condição sanitária agravou o esgotamento laboral, já que o suporte familiar e social foi visto como elementos protetores e de grande relevância na prevenção. Considerações finais: Esses profissionais desenvolveram ansiedade, depressão, insônia e outros quadros de estresse, levando-os ao aumento do desenvolvimento da Síndrome. Estudos do tema podem auxiliar no planejamento de ações de promoção da saúde.
