La Dismorfia Muscular (DM) es un Trastorno de la Dismorfia Corporal poco conocido hoy en día y que podría estar ganando peso debido a la gran influencia publicitaria y valoración a la imagen corporal que se está dando actualmente en las sociedades primermundistas. El objetivo de este estudio ha sido revisar y estudiar los distintos factores de riesgo que pueden llevar al desarrollo de la DM para facilitar su estudio y prevenir su desarrollo. Los resultados han ilustrado la importancia de los factores sociodemográficos y el entorno próximo a los sujetos (familias, amigos, entrenadores, redes sociales, medios de comunicación, compañeros de deporte, etc.), el fácil acceso a esteroides o sustancias dopantes; así como los refuerzos, factores psicológicos de la personalidad como altas puntuaciones en Neuroticismo, la internalización de los ideales de belleza, la autoestima o la insatisfacción corporal; que han podido influir y favorecer el desarrollo de la Dismorfia Muscular.
