A Hipomineralização Molar Incisivo é uma anomalia caracterizada por um defeito na qualidade do esmalte dentário durante o processo de maturação no final da amelogênese. É de difícil diagnóstico pelo cirurgião dentista por suas semelhanças clinicas com outros defeitos de desenvolvimento do esmalte. Têm características físicas como a área bem delineada, coloração que vai do amarelo ao marrom, com superfície porosa e pode vir acompanhada de fraturas dentarias frequentemente relatada com hipersensibilidades severas, associados à cárie dentaria.Com o objetivo de identificar as possíveis causas etiológicas que causam a HMI, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica através de pesquisa no Google Acadêmico, Periódicos Capes, Scielo, BvSalud, Lilacs e Pubmed utilizando os termos Hipomineralização molar incisivo e fatores etiológicos.Foram encontradas evidências da associação de fatores genéticos e ambientais com o HMI. Diversos estudos tem demonstrado a intima ligação de injurias sofridas nos períodos pré, peri e pós natais ao surgimento de defeitos de esmalte.Estudos sobre o tema, com enfoque em sua etiologia são necessários para que haja um correto direcionamento e orientação pelo profissional às famílias com crianças propensas a esta condição patológica, a fim de evitar o seu surgimento ou mesmo minimizar as inúmeras consequências causadas por esta lesão.
