Data de entrada do artigo: 26/01/2012 Data de aceite do artigo: ABSTRACTThe muscle strength is the ability to generate tension on a resistance. It reaches the peak between the second and third decades of life and tends to decrease significantly in the following decades. Loss muscle mass in elderly is one of the serious problems of aging. The isokinetic evaluation allows the study of the dynamics of muscles through evaluation of muscular performance variables. This study aimed to analyze the peak and the deficit muscle torque of flexors and knee extensors of elderly women physically active, through Isokinetic Computerized TM Biodex Multi Joint System 3 Pro, at angular velocities of 120, 180 and 240°/s. The sample was composed of 40 women (Group 1: 20 elderly physically active, Group 2: 20 elderly not physically active). The analysis of peak torque showed statistical significance in the extensor muscles at 180°/s in women over 80 years old, and to compare the deficit of both members there were statistical significance at speeds of 120.180 and 240°/ s in the extension movements and 120°/s in flexion movement. From the analysis of results, its possible to conclude that the muscles extensors are stronger than flexors, the relationship between speed and peak torque was not established between the flexor muscles and the muscular peak torque is higher in elderly not ...
