Las tablas de mortalidad materna son prácticamente inexistentes a nivel de los países latinoamericanos, pero muy necesarias e importantes en el campo de las ciencias actuariales. La mortalidad materna es considerada uno de los eventos de vigilancia epidemiológica en poblaciones de mujeres en edad fértil y que generan importantes implicaciones sociales, económicas y culturales. El propósito es construir la tabla de mortalidad materna como una propuesta que sirva de referencia en el campo actuarial, en el cual, las tablas de mortalidad son herramientas de gran utilidad para los cálculos de tarifas y reservas en la industria de seguros. Se emplea el método de Greville para determinar las funciones que sirven para los cálculos para la construcción de la tabla de mortalidad materna, y los datos demográficos como los nacimientos vivos y la mortalidad materna en el grupo de mujeres en edad reproductiva, definida desde los quince (15) a los cuarenta y nueve (49) años, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Luego de desarrollar la aplicación de la metodología propuesta por Greville se logró la construcción de la tabla de mortalidad materna para Panamá, en la cual se puede observar un incremento importante de la probabilidad de morir por esta causa a partir de los 35 años, así mismo, se observa la disminución en la esperanza de vida.
