The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), placed in extraction sockets, on bone regeneration and orthodontic tooth movement in adolescents. Fourty extraction sockets from twenty patients requiring extraction of first premolars based on their orthodontic treatment plan participated in this split-mouth clinical trial. Immediately, the teeth adjacent to the defects were pulled together by a NiTi closed-coil spring with constant force. The bone regeneration and the amount of orthodontic tooth movement was evaluated.
Background: Nowadays, a combination of classical subperiosteal implant designs with 3D imaging and printing allows one to reduce treatment time and provides support for fixed prostheses in cases where other techniques do not provide satisfactory results. This study aims to present a digital technique for the manufacturing of custom-made subperiosteal implants and what complications might appear after this type of surgery. Methods: Sixteen patients treated with a custom-made DMLS titanium subperiosteal implant during the period between October 2021 and February 2022 were enrolled in the study. Orthopantomography (OPT) and cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT) were recorded for all patients. The measurements taken into account in this study were the fit and stability of implants, duration of surgery, implant survival, and early and late complications. Results: The fit of the implants was extremely satisfactory, with a mean rating of 4 out of 5. The mean duration of the intervention was 86.18 min. At the end of the study, one implant was lost due to insufficient fit and recurrent, untreatable infections. Eleven implants (69%) were placed on the maxillary and five (31%) implants were placed on the mandible. Conclusions: Taking this into consideration, custom-made DMLS titanium subperiosteal implants could present satisfactory implant survival and low complication rates.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of insulin and strontium ranelate treatment on guided bone regeneration in diabetic rats. This study was carried out on 30 adult Wistar rats with an average weight of 250-300 grams. The animals underwent a unilateral osteotomy of the left proximal tibia followed by bone augmentation with collagenized porcine bone xenografts (Osteobiol mp3, Tecnoss Dental s.r.l., Torino, Italy) and then were randomized into five groups: healthy (H), diabetes (D), diabetes with insuline (DI), diabetes with strontium ranelate (DS) and diabetes with insuline and strontium ranelate (DIS). Histomorphometric analysis was performed at the end of this study.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) - based mandibular indices and the CBCT mandibular bone density values and to determine whether they correlate with bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar spine (L1 - L4) and proximal left femur in patients with osteoporosis and diabetes mellitus, which were taken a treatment with strontium ranelate over a period of 6 months. The study included 20 osteoporosis patients and 40 diabetic patients (16 patients type 1 diabetes mellitus and 24 patients type 2 diabetes mellitus). In CBCT images, the radiomorphometric indices were measured in the right and left mandibles. The relationship between the CBCT measurements of the mandible and skeletal BMD was assessed. The present study showed that mandibular bone quality is closely correlated with the skeletal status of the patients with osteoporosis and diabetes mellitus which were in treatment with strontium ranelate for bone improving.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of alloplatic graft and platelet rich fibrin (PRF) , alone or in combination, on bone regeneration in Wistar rats femural defects. Bone defects were prepared in adults male of 20 Wistar rats. In a group of ten, the defect was filled with synthetic ceramic graft as an alloplastic graft; the others 10 were grafted with this alloplastic graft mixed with PRF. All animals were sacrificed on the 90th postoperative day and the femural bones were removed, histologic sections were prepared and the experimental sites were examined microscopically. Histologic examination revealed more new bone formation in the defects filled with alloplastic graft mixed with PRF than in the defects grafted with alloplastic graft alone. The platelet rich fibrin combination effectively induces new bone formation.
