El presente estudio, distorsiones cognitivas y el intento suicida en jóvenes entre 14 y 27 años de edad, hace referencia a un tema de profunda reflexión y representa un alto impacto emocional en quienes lo han experimentado. Tiene como objetivo identificar las distorsiones cognitivas de las jóvenes que acuden al departamento de salud mental del Hospital Rodríguez Zambrano de Manta-Ecuador por un evento de intento suicida. La población estuvo constituida por 4 jóvenes entre 14 y 27 años de edad de sexo femenino; fueron escogidas por muestreo no probabilístico a conveniencia de las investigadoras. Corresponde a un estudio de corte cualitativo; para la obtención de la información se realizó una entrevista a profundidad y el método de observación, también se aplicó el inventario de pensamientos automáticos. Los resultados evidenciaron que los jóvenes sujetos de estudio, manifestaron: creencias nucleares caracterizadas por pensamientos de debilidad, fragilidad, etiquetas de sí mismas, maximización de emociones, incapacidad para resolver los problemas, desvalorización y soledad. Se evidenció que las distorsiones cognitivas más frecuentes encontradas en las investigadas fueron: Falacia de Recompensa Divina, Falacia de Control, Falacia de Justicia, Interpretación del Pensamiento y Deberías.
