RESUMOA obesidade uma epidemia global, uma doença crônica e progressiva. É um problema de saúde pública uma vez que apresenta diversas outras comorbidades associadas. A medicina avança a cada dia na busca de tratamento e prevenção dessa patologia. Existem conhecidos tratamentos medicamentosos, não medicamentosos e cirúrgicos. A Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA), que regula os medicamentos nos Estados Unidos, autoriza o uso de semaglutida injetável no tratamento da obesidade. No Brasil, o uso ainda é restrito ao tratamento contra o Diabetes Melittus tipo 2 (DM2). Tendo em vista esse importante assunto, esse trabalho objetiva compreender o uso da semaglutida para o tratamento da obesidade. De maneira mais especifica, objetiva caracterizar a obesidade e consequências associadas, além de, identificar o mecanismo farmacológico da semaglutida no tratamento da obesidade.
