O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a existência de correlação entre os dados clínicos e histopatológicos do carcinoma espinocelular oral. Foram avaliados 90 casos de pacientes com diagnóstico de carcinoma espinocelular oral dos arquivos do Instituto Maranhense de Oncologia Aldenora Bello (IMOAB) (São Luís, MA). Aplicou-se o teste de correlação de Pearson, em nível de significância de 5%, não tendo sido revelada relação estatisticamente significante (r = 0,095, p = 0,375) entre a classificação clínica TNM (tumor, linfonodo, metástase) e a graduação histológica de malignidade (GHM) desenvolvida por Wahi (1971) e publicada pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS). Mas houve relação significativa entre a referida graduação histológica de malignidade e o parâmetro clínico tamanho do tumor primário (T) (r = 0,229, p = 0,03).
