Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é investigar empiricamente o impacto dos investimentos públicos em infraestrutura de transportes sobre o crescimento econômico brasileiro. As principais hipóteses investigadas são: i) os investimentos em infraestrutura de transportes contribuem para o crescimento econômico dos estados brasileiros; ii) estes investimentos possuem maiores efeitos nas regiões menos desenvolvidas do Brasil. Para tanto, utiliza-se se quatro métodos de dados em painel espacial estático e dinâmico para as 26 unidades federativas, no período de 1998 e 2012. Os resultados econométricos confirmam apenas a segunda hipótese, indicando que os investimentos em infraestrutura de transportes são mais produtivos nas regiões menos desenvolvidas do país (Norte e Nordeste). Ademais, com base nas análises descritivas, pode-se afirmar que o investimento per capita em infraestrutura de transportes e a presença desta rubrica no orçamento dos estados apresentaram reduções no período analisado.Palavras-chave: Infraestrutura de transportes; crescimento econômico; dados em painel; econometria espacial.
