Macroabrasion is a technique for the removal of localized white spots using a high-speed, intermittent high speed turbine finishing diamond tip. It is fast, safe, efficient, and an alternative to enamel microabrasion. However, when the stain is deeper, these localized intrinsic stains or defects can be treated with partial direct veneers. A conservative preparation should be done and that allows stratification of the resin to mask the hypoplasia and provide naturalness to the tooth. Thus, the objective of this work is to demonstrate, through a clinical case, macroabrasion and a partial veneer from the preparation, restoration, to the finishing and polishing to remove hypoplastic stains.
Objective: The objective of the present study was to present, through two clinical cases, the direct stratification technique and the sequence of finishing and polishing of composite resin restorations on fractured anterior teeth. Case reports: In the first case, an 11-year-old female patient fractured the upper central incisors. In the second, a 6-year-old female patient fractured the left upper central incisor. A detailed description of the layering technique, materials, and instruments available was presented, not only for the restoration itself but also for finishing and polishing. In both cases, the tooth fragment was lost, so it was decided to use the technique of direct restoration with composite resin. Discussion: The composite resin restores the tooth structure with excellent optical results, long-term predictability is obtained, in addition to being a conservative way to restore the aesthetics and function of fractured anterior teeth. Conclusion: The technique performed provided a satisfactory aesthetic and functional result that, consequently, improved the patient’s self-esteem.
The literature reports several materials for the restoration of endodontically treated teeth, with coronal destruction that requires an intra-root fiber post to stabilize the prosthetic part. The intra-radicular post of composite resin reinforced with fiberglass can be used as retainers in rehabilitating endodontically treated teeth due to their adhesiveness, pleasing aesthetics, and elasticity module close to the dentin less wear on the remaining structure. This clinical case reports the step-by-step application of dual resin cement (Rebilda DC Dentine - Voco) used as the cementation material of the post and material for the filling core in a single step, in an upper right lateral incisor. Moreover, it describes the advantages and indications of the post-and-core technique, also called “monobloc” which can be used in both anterior and posterior teeth. This protocol minimizes the adhesive interfaces, the chair time, and the steps of the clinical procedure.
