O presente estudo visa identificar as espécies de crustáceos mais comuns pesca de arrasto segundo o conhecimento de pescadores de três municípios do litoral sul do Estado do Espírito Santo, sudeste do Brasil, e apresentar alguns aspectos relacionados à sua biologia. Entre setembro de 2016 e fevereiro de 2017 foram realizadas observações do cotidiano dos pescadores artesanais e entrevistados 92 pescadores. Todos os entrevistados são do sexo masculino, com idade que varia de 18 a 71 anos, baixa escolaridade e atuam na pesca entre 1 e 41 anos. Em Anchieta, as espécies alvo são os camarões sete-barbas, rosa e branco, enquanto que em Piúma e Marataízes apenas o sete-barbas é alvo da pesca. Nestas comunidades, a carcinofauna acompanhante é composta por siris e caranguejos. Segundo os pescadores, esses crustáceos apresentam semelhanças nos estágios juvenil e adulto, com tais fases ocorrendo no mesmo local. Foi descrita por eles os caracteres de dimorfismo sexual desses organismos. As informações obtidas junto às comunidades tradicionais podem contribuir para a conservação das espécies alvo e da fauna acompanhante, uma vez que o conhecimento etnobiológico é equivalente com a literatura. Este saber local pode ser utilizado em propostas de manejo sustentável bem como na diminuição do impacto sobre as populações das espécies alvo e fauna acompanhante.
O conhecimento tradicional de pescadores acerca da biologia e da ecologia dos recursos naturais é importante para sua preservação e conservação. O presente estudo descreveu a importância dos crustáceos a partir da percepção de pescadores artesanais que atuam no litoral sul do estado do Espírito Santo, Sudeste do Brasil. Essas observações foram realizadas entre setembro de 2016 e fevereiro de 2017, totalizando 92 entrevistas. Os pescadores são do sexo masculino, com idades entre 18 e 71 anos e possuem baixa escolaridade. Para os entrevistados, os crustáceos apresentam importância ecológica, pois fazem parte da cadeia alimentar e do ecossistema, sendo utilizados para comercialização e consumo próprio. Relatam também o uso de siris e caranguejos na confecção de isca. Os pescadores consideram o período do defeso importante, porém incorreto para a região. Os resultados demonstram a importância dos estudos etnoecológicos para compreender a percepção de atores locais envolvidos na pesca artesanal e, com isso, facilitar o diálogo entre gestores e comunidades pesqueiras.
