RESUMO Por meio do levantamento, sistematização e análise dos processos de aprovação da Diretoria de Obras disponíveis no acervo do Arquivo Público e Histórico de Ribeirão Preto (APHRP), o artigo estuda as características arquitetônicas da casa urbana ribeirão-pretana dos anos 1920, desde sua implantação, intenção plástica e tipologia programática. O texto contribui à historiografia da arquitetura, mostrando como as características arquitetônicas se vinculam aos contextos políticos, econômicos, sociais e culturais, coexistindo com o cenário arquitetônico das grandes capitais brasileiras, especialmente em São Paulo com o aparecimento de novos programas, alterações na implantação e inovações no repertório formal. Busca apoio teórico em pesquisas recentes, como a de Jorge Lody; em autores locais, como Adriana Capretz Silva; em autores consolidados, como Carlos Lemos e Nestor Goulart Reis Filho e, por fim, em autores que trazem uma visão do contexto internacional, como Monique Eleb e Anne Debarre.
Além dos mestres, agradeço todos os funcionários, colegas e amigos que o IAU me trouxe de presente, em especial aqueles membros do grupo de pesquisa "Patrimônio, Cidades e Territórios", com os quais eu dividi, ao longo destes anos, tanto aprendizado e tantos momentos especiais, mesmo que, por vezes, o contato tenha sido remoto, costurando estados de Norte a Sul do país.
Apresenta metodologia de pesquisa documental de projetos arquitetônicos através da experiência no acervo de Obras Particulares do Arquivo Público e Histórico de Ribeirão Preto para o desenvolvimento da tese de doutorado “Casa e documentação: a história contada através de um acervo de projetos” defendida em dezembro de 2020 no Instituto de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo (IAU-USP). Traz a trajetória desta pesquisa que se inicia com o levantamento da massa documental através da digitalização do acervo, até então inexistente, passa pelos critérios utilizados na sistematização dos dados – incluindo a definição de categorias, que permitiram a análise de quase quatro mil processos – e desaágua nos eixos de análises, que possibilitaram a estruturação da redação da tese compilando as informações extraídas dos desenhos. Além deste acervo, expõe de que maneira outras documentações, desta e de outras instituições, foram usadas com a intenção de realizar o cruzamento das fontes de pesquisa nas análises quantitativas e qualitativas. Finaliza mostrando um compêndio dos resultados obtidos pela tese de doutorado, enfatizando a importância da pesquisa documental para a construção de uma narrativa da historiografia da arquitetura ampla e inclusiva baseada em evidências documentais.
