ApresentaçãoO depoimento de Jayme Zettel 1 , pioneiro da construção de Brasília e partícipe do processo de proteção do Conjunto Urbanístico de Brasília, ao trazer informações históricas sobre a implantação do Plano Piloto, abre espaço para a reflexão de questões importantes para a preservação da cidade.Metodologicamente, quanto à técnica, gênero e tipo de história oral adotada, esta entrevista 2 foi organizada em questionários semiestruturados, com perguntas objetivas e previamente formuladas, mas que deixam o entrevistado discorrer com liberdade. Neste sentido, a entrevista de Jayme Zettel contribui para preencher lacunas da documentação escrita e, possivelmente, apresentar outras versões, motivações ou discursos, não documentados ou expressos sobre os temas abordados neste depoimento: o processo de construção e implantação do Plano Piloto de Brasília; o processo de reconhecimento da cidade moderna como patrimônio cultural, através do tombamento distrital (1987) e federal (1990), bem como da inscrição na Lista do Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO (1987); o processo de construção da normativa de preservação vigente.
O artigo explora a possibilidade de interação entre diferentes leituras da cidade do Rio de Janeiro ao longo do tempo a partir de mapas e da bibliografia existente. Dois recortes foram privilegiados: o da abordagem turística da cidade e o da produção de mapas e guias no século XX. Um dos objetivos é compreender como mapas produzidos para construir uma determinada imagem da cidade, a de “lugar turístico”, guardam um universo de informações capazes de contribuir para que outras histórias sejam inventadas e lidas, num processo inacabado e fértil de interpretar e traduzir.
