El Sistema de Desarrollo Docente chileno diversifica el acceso a estudios de Pedagogía. Entrega a las instituciones de educación superior la responsabilidad de crear programas de preparación y acceso desde la Enseñanza Media para atraer a jóvenes con mayores capacidades. Surge así la necesidad de conocer las características de quienes muestran temprano interés en la carrera.Este artículo expone resultados de un estudio cualitativo que, a través del análisis del discurso de dieciocho jóvenes de primer año de carreras de Pedagogía, obtenido en biogramas y grupos focales, buscó conocer aspectos personales, sociales y escolares de sus experiencias de exploración vocacional, para saber cuáles favorecieron su interés y qué recursos movilizaron.Los resultados describen experiencias involucradas en dicha exploración, los recursos que se movilizan y las condiciones y contextos en que se realizan.Permiten concluir que se trata de una experiencia subjetiva, fragmentada, no asistida y que responde al contexto, en interacciones ocasionales con actores de la familia y de la escuela.Los hallazgos permiten diseñar procesos de acompañamiento durante la Enseñanza Media para fortalecer la disposición a la Pedagogía y responder a desafíos institucionales de mejora en los mecanismos de atracción de futuros profesores.
