A malária é uma doença com um alto índice de letalidade, de notificação obrigatória, o qual está presente em países tropicais e subtropicais, principalmente, na África Tropical, como também nas Américas Central e do Sul, Sudeste asiático e Ilhas da Oceania. É causada pelo protozoário do gênero Plasmodium, sendo as espécies mais comuns no Brasil a Plasmodium vivax e o Plasmodium falciparum, sendo que a última pode progredir para malária cerebral, comprometendo as funções neurológicas. Além disso, o presente trabalho irá abordar as formas de transmissão, diagnóstico, tratamento e profilaxia no âmbito imunológico, patológico, fisiológico, genético e parasitológico, a fim, de expandir os conhecimentos sobre a malária e apresentar estudos mais recentes sobre a imunização ativa contra a doença.Palavra-chave: Plasmodium células T, malária cerebral fisiopatologia, malária polimorfismo diagnóstico,plasmodium vacina proteína Duffy.
