This research focused on the structural behavior of voided concrete columns under lateral load. Voided concrete columns have the advantage of decreasing the own weight of columns as well as the column total cost rather than the convenient construction methods. An experimental study on the behavior of columns with inner void is performed. A total of two column specimens have been tested considering both axial and lateral loads. The control specimen C1 with solid section contains longitudinal steel bar 4Ø16 while specimen C2 contains square void 100*100mm and longitudinal steel reinforcement bar 4Ø16. According to the test results, the voided column exhibited higher ductility than control specimen, reference to the increasing in maximum displacement, but the control specimen exhibited total lateral capacity higher than the voided concrete column, the decreasing of the lateral and ultimate capacity can be compared to the cost enhancement regarding the decreasing of the concrete volume used in the voided column.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
