The Movement Control Order (MCO) currently in effect in Malaysia was imposed in order to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This unfortunate circumstance has resulted in dramatic teaching and learning pedagogy shifts from traditional physical classes to online learning, including practical sessions. Therefore, this study aims to identify the Malaysian physiotherapy students' perceptions of e-practical education in achieving learning outcomes. In this cross-sectional study, 409 physiotherapy students from Malaysian universities participated voluntarily in the online Google Form survey, which was circulated through social media platforms from August 2021 to October 2021. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26.0 software. The results of the study demonstrate that students preferred traditional classes in comparison to online practical sessions in achieving the learning outcome of practical skills (p<.0.000) and social competencies (p<.0.000). Moreover, their activity level was also higher in physical classes (p<0.000). In a comparison of online and traditional practical (face-to-face) classes, the majority of students voted gaining theoretical knowledge as neutral or slightly effective but slightly ineffective in improving practical skills. Students felt that more hands-on practice through face-to-face classes would enhance the attainment of the learning outcome. In future, therefore, educational institutions can consider introducing other forms of interactive online mediums to simulate physical classes.

The current study aimed to examine the association between music and motivation to do exercise among university students in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The demographics data, use of music during exercise, preferred type of music, and criteria to select music were assessed by a validated self-administered questionnaire. The motivation towards exercises was evaluated using the Behavioural Regulations in Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3) while the level of physical activity was assessed by Godin-Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (LTEQ). The demographics information, use of music during exercise, preferred type of music, and criteria to choose music were tabulated using descriptive statistics. A point-biserial correlation was used to analyze the relationship between music and motivation to do exercise while chi-square was utilized to determine the association between the use of music during exercise and physical activity level. The results of the current study showed that 80.3% of the participants listen to music during exercise. Energetic and rhythmic was the preferred type of music for exercise. Tempo/ speed/ bpm was the most popular factor to be considered during the exercise. Most of the participants prefer to listen to an individual music player during exercise rather than an open audio system.. Listening to music during exercise shown significant correlation with a motivation (p=0.006), external regulation (p=0.014), identified regulation (p=0.006), integrated regulation (p=0.002) and intrinsic regulation (p=0.015). There was a significant association between the use of music during exercise and physical activity level (p=0.003) in this study. Future research that involves the type of exercise performed with the music is encouraged to explore the significance of music as a motivational tool in exercise.
Background and Study Aim. Football is a globally recognized sport and played both professionally and recreationally. As it is a physically challenging sport, it must inform players on preventing injuries from occurring or reoccurring. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices on injury prevention towards lateral ankle sprain (LAS) among amateur football players in Brunei. Material and Methods. A total of 140 respondents participated in the cross-sectional study who fit into the inclusion criteria. An online questionnaire was adapted and shared with amateur football players in Brunei from September 2021 to October 2021. Questions were related to (1) demographic data; (2) injury history; (3) knowledge; (4) attitudes; and (5) practices to prevent a lateral ankle sprain. Results. Tendon/ligament injury was the highest amount of frequency at n= 97 (69.3%), in which the participants have sustained it throughout their playing years. More people perceive that the cause of injury was mainly due to lack of physical fitness 84.2%, fatigue/exhaustion 55%, uncured injuries 49.3% and contact with other players 75.7%. 84.3% agreed that the importance of injury prevention is crucial. Participants reported that the injury prevention methods are mainly used to prevent lateral ankle sprain were stretching 81.4%, specific warm-up training 79.3% and taping 67.9%. Conclusions. Our results show that players think that injury prevention is critical, yet most of them are still under-informed about avoiding injuries properly. Despite evidence that stretching is ineffective in preventing injuries, many athletes stretch to prevent damage. Warm-up training and taping are two other standard injury prevention techniques these amateur football players use. Future research should raise exercise knowledge among Brunei’s amateur football players to prevent injuries.
The study aimed to determine prevalence of low back pain (LBP), risk factors, and knowledge of injury prevention strategies in recreational cyclists. Materials and methods. This cross-sectional quantitative study included 141 adult recreational cyclists aged 18 to 70. LBP prevalence was determined using a standard Nordic questionnaire. In addition, a validated self-developed questionnaire was used to assess knowledge level, with a high score representing the highest level of knowledge. Frequencies and percentages were used to report the descriptive variables, whereas the Chi-square test was used to determine the association between risk factors and LBP. Results. The study identified that 55.3% of cyclists had a lifetime prevalence of LBP, and 35.5% reported LBP in the past 12 months. However, no significant association (p>0.05) was found between the risk factor and the LBP. Despite this, a low level of knowledge of injury prevention strategies for recreational cyclists was found. Conclusions. This survey found that recreational cyclists have a low level of understanding about crucial bicycle characteristics such as seat height, saddle tilt, and handlebar position to maintain optimal body biomechanics. Recreational cyclists should be educated on the need for appropriate bicycle modifications and ergonomics, effective warm-up, stretching, and cool-down techniques, and some critical injury prevention strategies, especially in the low back.
Introduction: Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a relatively recent method that has been shown to help reduce muscular tension, increase flexibility and prevent tissue adhesion. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of awareness and knowledge about the benefits of IASTM, especially following injury rehabilitation, despite its many advantages. The study aimed to investigate the awareness, practice and perception of instrument- assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) among Malaysian physiotherapists (PTs). Methods: The cross-sectional study included 133 PTs who answered an online questionnaire via a google link on their awareness and perception of IASTM in their practice. The Google link was given to the participants through email and the official Malaysian Physiotherapy (MPA) social media group. Results: Majority of the respondents (73.7%) are aware of IASTM technique. Despite being aware on IASTM, 74.4% of respondents reported not practicing the technique. Furthermore, 73.7% of respondents stated that the main reason they don’t practice is because fingers have better force adjustment than IASTM. Over 80% of respondents revealed that practicing IASTM can save energy and convenient during myofascial release. Moreover, 82.7 % of respondents stated that one of the benefits of IASTM for PTs is that it helps alleviate stress on fingers and wrists during soft tissue mobilization. Beyond 55% of respondents stated that they will incorporate IASTM in practice in near future. Conclusion: According to the findings, the majority of Malaysian physiotherapists are aware of the IASTM. However, fewer than half of respondents declined to incorporate it into their future practice due to the PTs preference for feeling the patient’s muscle texture. More emphasis can be given to the IASTM techniques among the PTs as the participants have mentioned that IASTM has better force exertion and saves energy when applying soft tissue massage.
