Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus rises the chance of health problems both risks development for the mom, and fetus. With adverse effects on psychological and medical well-being meaning a diminished in Quality of Life (QOL). Aim: To explore quality of life among women with gestational diabetes. Methods: A descriptive design was used for the study. The study was conducted at outpatient clinics of Suez Canal University Hospital. This study was conducted during June 2017 to December 2018. Convenience sample of two hundred pregnant women medically diagnosed with gestational diabetes were considered. Interview questionnaire sheet included five parts and QOL scale according to (Quality of life index diabetes version-111). Results: A sum of 200 mothers diagnosed with GDM were studied, their age range between 20-42, with Mean ±SD 29.7 ± 5.8 years, with gestational diabetes (53%). The quality of life to be the best in the social/economic domain, psychological/ spiritual domain, family domain and slightly worse in the health and functioning domain (66%, 64%, 48.0% and 32.0% respectively). There is highly significant difference between age, university education, living in urban area and knowledge. There is positive significant correlation between health and functioning domain, social economic domain, psychological spiritual domain and family domain with p<0.001. Conclusion: More than two thirds of the studied mothers were satisfied with both social/economic and psychological/ spiritual domains. Majority of studied mothers have appropriate knowledge about management of hypoglycemia. More than three fourth of studied sample did not have knowledge about symptoms of GDM. Recommendations: Designing guideline and brochure must be distributed among women attending antenatal clinic about self-care to promote their health concerning gestational diabetes.
Background: Nurses play crucial role in avoiding hospital procured infections, by guaranteeing that all viewpoints of their nursing practice is prove based, and also through nursing inquire research and understanding instruction. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the nurse's compliance with infection control measures and-barrier precautions in delivery room. Methods: Research design: An exploratory design had been chosen for carrying out our paper. Setting: The study was carried out in four hospitals in Damietta governorate. Subjects: 51 on duty nurses were taken at the time of the study. Tools of data collection: Data were collected using self-administers questioners. Results: Findings revealed the existence of poor standard precautions (100%). There is connection between age, education level, work involvement experience, and compliance with standard safety measures and precautions at p<0.05. At the same time significant relation between training courses and compliance to standard precautions was p<0.05. Conclusion: The nurses in the current study faced a lot of barriers that posed a hindrance in implementing the infection control measures, such as in situations like: emergency situation, lack of equipment & supplies, lack of infection control measures, lack of periodical infection and control training course. Recommendations: Strategic plan to overcome obstacles & barriers that hinder nurses to compliance with infection control measures should be conducted. It is essential to consider the national standards of infection prevention adopted by the ministry of health in delivery room of all hospital in Damietta governorate.
Background: Educational guidelines after bone marrow transplantation provide patients with sufficient knowledge and practices to reduce expected complications. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of educational guidelines on patients' knowledge and practices regarding complications post-bone marrow transplantation. Research design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: The study was conducted at Oncology Center affiliated with Mansoura University, Egypt. Subject: A convenient sample that included (50)patients post bone marrow transplantation. Tools: (I) Patient's assessment sheet, (II) Patient's knowledge, and III: Patient's reported practices (pre and post). Results: This study revealed that there was a statistically significant improvement in patients' knowledge and reported practices respectively pre and post-educational guidelines. There was a positive correlation between knowledge and practice at pre, post, and follow-up implementation of the educational guidelines regarding complications post bone marrow transplantation. Conclusion: The current study concluded that educational guidelines regarding complications post-bone marrow transplantation have a positive effect on improving patients' knowledge and reported practices. Recommendation: Provide continuous educational guidelines regarding complications post-bone marrow transplantation.
Background: Vital signs can draw attention to impeding the clinical deterioration of a patient with stroke. So; therapeutic positioning is important to promote patients' functional recovery. Aim: to determine the effect of instructional guidelines regarding therapeutic positions on post-stroke pain and vital signs among patients with stroke. Design: This study will be used a quasi-experimental design (pre/post-test) with study and control groups. Setting: at the stroke unit in Suez Canal University hospital-Egypt. Sample: A Purposive sample consisted of 100 patients who will be divided into the study (50) and control groups (50) from the above-mentioned setting will be recruited in this study and assigned randomly. Tools: Tool I: Personal data assessment sheet, Tool II: The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) for assessing patients' medical history, Tool III: Vital parameters observational checklist tool, and Tool IV: Numerical Pain Rating scale. Results: The results revealed that there were highly significant improvements in patients with stroke's knowledge of pre-and post-instructional guidelines implementation (P<0.001). Furthermore, the study revealed that the majority of the studied patients had no pain after the semi-fowler's position. There was a statistically significant difference and improvement in pre and post-instructional guidelines implementation regarding therapeutic positioning concerning selected vital signs such as heart rate and respiratory rate scores at semi-fowler's position. Conclusion: The instructional guidelines implementation regarding therapeutic positions had a significant effect on reducing pain levels and improving vital signs among patients with stroke. Recommendations: The instructional guidelines regarding therapeutic positions should be conducted, discussed, integrated into the care of patients with stroke, and taught to them to improve their knowledge.
One of the most prevalent and severe side effects for patients with brain tumors is pain and fatigue. The aim was to determine the effect of instructional guidelines on brain tumor patients' pain and fatigue levels. Subjects and method: Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: the research was conducted in the neurosurgery department at Beni-Suef University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 50 adult patients was included. Three tools were used: Tool (I) a structured interview questionnaire (II) a numerical pain rating scale, and (III) a Fatigue assessment scale. Results: The current study revealed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between pain mean scores pre and post-instructional guidelines implementation at (P= <0.05). Also, the study showed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between anxiety scores pre and post-instructional guidelines implementation with (P=<0.001). Conclusion: The instructional guidelines implementation had a positive effect on reducing pain and fatigue levels among patients with brain tumors. Recommendations: The instructional guidelines implementation regarding brain tumors should be provided and discussed in the rehabilitation programs.
