Este trabalho apresenta um estudo exploratório e analítico sobre a orientação sexual dos estudantes que ingressaram no curso de Licenciatura em Ciências Humanas/Sociologia, da Universidade Federal do Maranhão, Campus de Imperatriz, no ano de 2019. Buscou-se, através de instrumentos de coleta de dados como questionário de múltipla escolha e entrevistas semiestruturadas, analisar como os sujeitos autodeclarados gays, lésbicas ou bissexuais vivenciam sua orientação sexual no espaço da universidade. Fundamentando-se em alguns estudos de Foucault (1985;1988), Butler (2020) e Beauvoir (1970; 1980), a categoria da sexualidade foi analisada sob o viés sociopolítico com vistas a entender como as relações sociais interferem nas vivências subjetivas da orientação sexual dos sujeitos da pesquisa. Os dados coletados apontam uma entrada de estudantes homossexuais, mas que, por fatores sociais, procuram manter o sigilo de sua orientação por medo de discriminação por parte da família ou de pessoas que fazem parte do seu convívio.
