Este trabalho objetiva identificar quais as diferenças e semelhanças entre as características estratégicas de organizações da indústria da construção e da indústria da manufatura. A pesquisa foi baseada em um survey que levantou dados de 72 empresas. Os dados, relacionados a oito variáveis dividas em três categorias, foram analisados por meio da análise discriminante e da análise descritiva. Os resultados mostraram que as principais variáveis responsáveis pela discriminação entre os dois setores são: a realização de análise de desempenho, a adoção de melhorias nos processos, a utilização de novas tecnologias e o tempo de resposta as demandas de mercado.
A construção civil é reconhecida pelo alto uso da mão de obra, o que a torna dependente das habilidades dos trabalhadores. Nesse sentido, este artigo objetiva diagnosticar fatores relacionados a mão de obra em canteiros situados na região Sul e Sudeste do país e avaliar qual sua relação com a produtividade das construções por meio de um Survey. Os resultados apresentados mostram que há uma perspectiva de melhoria nas características da mão de obra, uma vez que problemas comumente encontrados na construção civil, como a má qualificação da mão de obra, foram diagnosticados positivamente.

Os dados foram analisados com o uso da análise descritiva e análise inferencial não-paramétrica.Contribuições teóricas/práticas/sociais: Os resultados mostraram que ambos os segmentos se apresentaram conservadores quanto a sua estrutura organizacional. A principal diferença encontrada diz respeito ao nível de centralização dos setores, de modo que o ramo da construção civil se mostrou mais centralizador quando comparado ao ramo industrial.Originalidade/relevância: a comparação revela que os dois setores necessitam se modificar para conseguirem atender aos novos modelos de gestão requeridos pela Indústria 4.0.
