Por mais de 30 anos a Ilha de Cotijuba (Belém-Pará – Amazônia Brasileira) abrigou três diferentes instituições em um mesmo espaço: colônia reformatória, educandário e presídio. A sua arquitetura é bem característica, grandiosa, porém não aparenta ter abrigado nenhuma dessas três instituições. A partir dessa realidade, e baseado em metodologias provenientes da Arqueologia da Arquitetura e histórico do local, esse artigo pretende apresentar como o controle era aplicado nos internos a partir da arquitetura em que estavam inseridos. As metodologias escolhidas foram: análise alpha, gamma e espacial. Este artigo é baseado em uma pesquisa de mestrado desenvolvida no Programa de Pós-graduação em Antropologia da Universidade Federal do Pará, intitulada “Arquitetura Disciplinar na Amazônia: o Educandário Dr. Nogueira de Feria – Ilha de Cotijuba – Belém – Pará”.
