El presente estudio de investigación tiene como objetivo principal aplicar el método Sol-Gel para la preparación de nuevos materiales, en este caso específico a través de éste método se ha logrado sintetizar matrices de sílice (SiO2), empleando como reactivos silicato de sodio (Na2SiO3) y água (H2O) a través de reacciones de hidrólisis y condensación. La determinación del tiempo de felificación se ha realizado visualmente hasta la formación de la fase sólida del gel, como éste método es de alguna manera imprecisa, se ha empleado un turbidímetro en la determinación del grado de gelificación.La caracterización de los materiales obtenidos se han llevado a cabo por Difracción de Rayos X, es a través del digractrograma obtenido del material sintetizado que se verifica la presencia de la fase amorfa de la sílice, cuyo pico de difracción más importante se aprecia a un valor aproximado del ángulo 2θ = 27°. Las matrices de sílice son de gran importancia porque permiten encapsular una diversidad de moléculas, particulas, microorganismos, nanopartículas entre otros, los cuáles son de gran aplicación en medicina, electrónica, catalizadores y otras áreas de la Ciencia y la tecnología.
