Two new species of Syzygium, S. hookeri and S. sanjappaiana from the Saddle Peak National Park of North Andaman Islands, are described and illustrated. The novelties are deliberated in the light of reviewed concept on the genus Syzygium and discussed with related species of Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Tripogon mahendragiriensis (Poaceae), a new species from Mahendragiri Hills, Eastern Ghats, Odisha (Orissa) State, India is described and illustrated. It is similar to Tripogon humilis and T. purpurascens, but differs mainly by having longer culms, leaf blades and spike, unlobed lemmas and 2 anthers which are longer. From T. purpurascens it also differs by having 3‐awned lemmas.
Tripogon tirumalae, a new species of grass from the Seshachalam hill ranges, Andhra Pradesh, India, is described and illustrated. The new species differs from Tripogon sivarajanii in having ciliate membranous ligules, a shorter inflorescence, more florets, bearded lemma base, and a median awn longer than the lemma; and from Tripogon trifidus in having culms 60−75 cm high, glabrous leaf sheaths, and lemmas with a single median awn which is 1.5 times longer than the lemma.
Three species viz., Amorphophallus konkanensis Hett., S. R. Yadav & K. S. Patil, Drimia polyantha (Blatt. & McCann) Stearn and Kalanchoe bhidei T. The new species is similar to the Indian endemic species P. bellariensis in having dorsal groove in lower glume of sessile spikelet, but differs in having shorter plant height, lacerate membranous ligule, shorter leaf blade and raceme length, fewer homogamous spikelets, shorter sessile spikelet and anther length.
Themeda odishae (Poaceae), a new species from the Mahendragiri hill ranges, Odisha (Orissa), India, is described and illustrated. It differs from T. mooneyi in shorter and hairy leaf blades, longer peduncle, length of sessile spikelet callus, number of pedicelled spikelets, and longer anthers. And from T. saxicola by its longer peduncle, number of racemes, number of pedicelled spikelets and hairy involucral spikelets.
Glochidion kingii M. V. Ramana, Sanjappa, Venu & Alok Chorghe, a new species from the scrub forests of North Andaman Islands, is described and illustrated. Its morphological similarities/dissimilarities in relation to G. rubrum Blume from the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra is discussed and information about the distribution and conservation status for the new species is provided.
