O meio rural está passando por grandes mudanças, uma delas seria o abandono da fumicultura como parte do processo sócio-histórico-econômico de regiões catarinenses. Áreas menores ou periféricas foram tragadas pela modernidade e urbanização, contribuindo, neste processo, com seus melhores ativos: terras, recursos naturais e humanos. A fumicultura vem diminuindo, com a busca pela qualidade de vida moderna, o que gerou modificação no mercado e o encerramento de fábricas de cigarros. Em Santa Catarina, muitos resquícios dessa história vêm sendo reconvertidos para uso turístico, caso das estufas utilizadas para a secagem das folhas do tabaco, edificadas em tijolos maciços e com uma arquitetura peculiar. Esse patrimônio industrial remanescente é o foco da pesquisa, que, a partir do mapeamento e das incursões em campo, com entrevistas diretas, identificou exemplares revitalizados para o uso turístico, dando nova vida e novo fluxo aos espaços onde outrora a planta era cultivada. A pesquisa exploratória, de caráter qualitativo, baseou-se em análise bibliográfica, pesquisa de campo e emprego de entrevistas, e tais métodos se revelaram aptos à validação do seguinte pressuposto: externalidades territoriais, como as estufas de fumo, representam novas possibilidades para um espaço rural redescoberto, como se ressurgissem das cinzas. As respostas foram analisadas a partir da análise de conteúdo, gerando categorias que apresentaram novas possibilidades para o uso de edificações que estão sendo − ou possam vir a ser − revitalizadas para finalidades turísticas, contando a história dos tempos áureos da fumicultura catarinense.
Os produtos coloniais são alimentos e bebidas processados a partir de técnicas tradicionais adotadas por imigrantes europeus que colonizaram o município de Nova Trento (Santa Catarina), região Sul do Brasil. Inicialmente utilizados como reserva alimentar das famílias de agricultores, ganharam uma nova aplicação com o advento do turismo, passando a ser procurados e consumidos por visitantes atraídos, principalmente, pelos sítios religiosos ali comuns. Tal fato sugere que um maior entendimento a seu respeito pode estimular seu consumo e dinamizar outras atividades. Este artigo objetiva analisar as potencialidades dos produtos coloniais para compreender como contribuem com o desenvolvimento do turismo cultural e a preservação do patrimônio alimentar local. Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, de caráter exploratório descritivo, com pesquisa bibliográfica, de campo e observação não-participante, assim como, entrevistas semiestruturadas com produtores, comerciantes, gestores e consumidores de produtos coloniais. Os dados foram analisados à luz da análise de conteúdo categorial-temática. Os resultados indicam que os produtos coloniais possuem estreita relação com o contexto sociocultural e territorial pesquisado, o que favorece a sua preservação pela transmissão cultural relacionada ao processo de autenticidade. Seus atributos culturais, nutricionais e organolépticos possibilitam, portanto, atrair novos públicos, gerar oportunidades econômicas, diversificar e difundir o turismo no destino, especialmente se ofertados em sinergia com outros atrativos locais.
