Nos dias atuais, o conceito de saúde somou ao diagnóstico e cura de doenças, um contexto ampliado, contextualizado e mais humano. Porém, por isso mesmo, mais complexo e ainda não idealmente inserido nos currículos da formação dos profissionais de saúde. O projeto de extensão, “Fisiologia na educação de jovens conscientes para a cidadania”, visou ampliar a formação cidadã de crianças e adolescentes através de: (1) aulas sobre o funcionamento do corpo humano, noções de higiene, autocuidado e saúde ampliada; (2) aplicação de um questionário de mapeamento geral da saúde, habitação e saneamento para o público-alvo, como uma pesquisa-ação; (3) produção e divulgação virtual, dos resultados da pesquisa-ação e de materiais didáticos vinculados ao projeto. As ações aqui relatadas ocorreram em 2017 e 2018, em duas instituições parceiras, situadas nos bairros Cajuru e Tatuquara de Curitiba, PR. O público-alvo foram crianças e adolescentes entre os 9 aos 14 anos, totalizando 43 indivíduos. Foram apresentadas as principais diferenças significativas (p≤0,005), entre ambos os anos e os bairros, segundo o teste Exato de Fisher, para os dados dos questionários, as quais incluíam, p. ex., a prática da automedicação, a conceituação de doenças e a segurança policial nas escolas. Os resultados sugerem que as ações do projeto podem estar contribuindo positivamente para minimizar algumas dessas diferenças e, a atuação de graduandos no projeto em geral, que a extensão pode em muito contribuir para uma formação ampliada, cidadã, humana e socialmente comprometida dos acadêmicos do curso de saúde.
