RESUMOO Programa Bolsa Família (PBF) foi criado pelo Governo Federal com a finalidade de combater a fome e promover uma renda as famílias que vivem em situação de miséria. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o estado nutricional de escolares beneficiários do Programa Bolsa Família da comunidade da Palmeirinha, em Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. A pesquisa foi do tipo transversal, realizada em 2017. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um questionário de frequência alimentar para avaliação de o consumo alimentar e aferição de peso e altura com cálculo do Índice de Massa Corpórea para avaliação do estado nutricional. Foram avaliadas 34 escolares, sendo 58,8% do sexo feminino (58,8%), responsável com média de 4,5 anos de estudo e família com renda média de 734,2 reais por mês. Os resultados indicam que os escolares beneficiários do PBF apresentaram médias maiores no consumo de alimentos como salgadinho, iogurte, suco de caixa, batata frita e salgado frito. Já em relação aos alimentos saudáveis foram encontradas médias superiores para arroz e feijão entre beneficiários do que os não beneficiários (p<0,05). Quanto ao estado nutricional, mesmo que prevalência de eutrofia tenha sido alta, não foi possível constatar diferença significativa entre os escolares (p >0,05). Conclui-se que o estado nutricional das crianças e dos adolescentes beneficiárias do PBF encontra-se adequado, contudo foram observados dados preocupantes em relação ao consumo de alimentos industrializados o que poderá acarretar futuras doenças crônicas como obesidade e a diabetes mellitus nesse grupo populacional vulnerável. ABSTRACTThe Bolsa Família Program (PBF) was created by the Federal Government with the purpose of combating hunger and promoting an income for families living in extreme poverty. The objective of this research was to evaluate the nutritional condition of schoolchildren beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família Program of the Palmeirinha community, in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. The research was of a cross-sectional type, carried out in 2017. Data collection was maded through a food frequency questionnaire to evaluate food consumption and weight and height measurement with calculation of the Body Mass Index for nutritional status evaluation. Thirty-four schoolchildren were evaluated, 58.8% female (58.8%), responsible with an average of 4.5 years of study and a family with an average income of $ 734.20 reais a month. The results indicate that the beneficiary students of the PBF presented higher averages in the consumption of foods like saltiness, yogurt, box juice, fried potato chips and salted. Regarding healthy foods, higher averages were found for rice and beans among beneficiaries than non-recipients (p <0.05).
