If you are a psychologist who conducts child custody or personal injury evaluations, how confident are you that the traditional Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2nd ed. (MMPI-2) validity scales and other potential MMPI-2 validity indicators are in fact useful for addressing the issue of response bias? This investigation contributes to the scientific database on the use of MMPI-2 validity indicators to detect response distortion. As the investigation represents empirical rather than analog data, it is of particular value to psychologists who engage in forensic assessment. The constructs of response bias (psychological) and truthfulness (legal) are not synonymous. However, as with many other
This report presents normative data on the means and standard deviations of the Least-Preferred Co-worker scale (LPC) and the Croup Atmosphere acale (CA) for various real-life and laboratory task proups, obtained in recent studies. The I,east Preferred Co-worker scale (LPC) has been used extensively in leadership research by Fiedler and his associates, as w«»ll as bv a prowlnp. number of other Investigators In the area. The score is based on a set of Srcimly CI
A cognitive process conceptualization of psychotherapy suggests some far reaching implications as to the form and objectives of psychotherapy. A review of research in the areas of clinical judgment, information processing, conceptual systems and social psychology reveals common themes in support of a differentiation taxonomy. Recent research indicates that the matching of conceptual levels of the patient and therapist significantly improves the probability of successful therapeutic process and outcome. Similarly, matching of the therapist's conceptual level to a certain type of group or to members of the group would appear to improve the group process and therapeutic outcome. This review examines the contribution of the differentiation literature and proposes future research considerations for both individual and group psychotherapy.
First-year students (N = 110) and 88% of the faculty (N = 44) at Royal Roads Military College were administered the Holland Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI), the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS), and the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) to explore the relationship between congruency of student-faculty interests to academic achievement. The results indicated gross support for the congruency hypothesis on the EPPS and the personality-type code profiles on the VPI. Although promising, the findings do not yet warrant the use of these tests for cadet selection. The definition of the environment used in this study serves as a useful alternative to Astin and Holland's environmental assessment technique, when the school (or organization) is small or homogeneous in composition.
The negative impact of encounter groups on participants has been subject to more speculation than good research. The necessity of stringent research designs and the use of behavioral indices of change are stressed by this paper, and specific criticisms are offered of some recent research on encounter group casualties. A research project using behavioral indices and comparing the impact of encounter groups with changes noted in a "placebo control" group and a control group is described. The results indicate that the group differences immediately after the group experience dissipated by the time of the six-month follow-up and that the negative indices were undifferentiated among the three groups.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
