As critical mediators in biological processes, microRNAs (miRNAs) which are small and endogenous noncoding RNAs have been associated with disease progression, cell proliferation, and development. Pre‐eclampsia (PE), a pregnancy‐related disorder with no early markers or symptoms is recognized as the main reason for fetal and maternal mortality and morbidity in the initial steps or even during pregnancy, worldwide. Clinical symptoms usually appear in the third trimester of the pregnancy. Although numerous research have unraveled several aspects of placenta development abnormalities associated with abnormal trophoblastic invasion and angiogenesis modification, many questions about the PE pathogenesis remains unanswered. A large number of studies have shown the important role of miRNAs as potential biomarkers in the PE prognosis and diagnosis. Here, the latest investigations about the PE and placental miRNAs expression, as well as, the crucial role of miRNA molecules including miR‐210 and miR‐155 which are deregulated in patients with PE, will be argued.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the impact of Cinnamomum verum, Mentha spicata, Zingiberene officinal on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) treatment. Materials and Methods: MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Clinicaltrial.gov, and for Persian articles SID, Magiran, Irandoc, and Iranmedex were searched without any time limitation. Results: Thirteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) consisting 668 women were entered in the meta-analysis. Significant differences in fasting blood sugar (FBS; weighted mean difference (WMD)=-3.69 mg/dL, 95% CI: -6.67 to -0.7, P=0.02; 241 participants), fasting insulin (WMD=-4.53 µIU/mL, 95% CI: -6.45 to -2.61, P<0.001;183 participants), triglyceride (TG; WMD=-17.97 mg/ dL, 95% CI: -30.51 to -5.43, P=0.005;183 participants), total cholesterol (TC; WMD=-14.60 mg/dL, 95% CI: -22.93 to -6.26, P=0.0006; 183 participants), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL; WMD=-16.58 mg/dL, 95% CI -23.91 to -9.24, P<0.001; 183 participants), malondialdehyde (MDA; WMD=-0.25 nmol/ml, 95% CI -0.41 to -0.09, P<0.002;124 participants), total testosterone (TT; WMD=-0.18 ng/mL, 95% CI -0.27 to -0.09, P<0.001; 116 participants), free testosterone (FT; WMD=-5.47 pg/mL, 95% CI -8.34 to -2.61, P=0.0002;78 participants) were obtained by using cinnamon alone and herbal mixture containing cinnamon in comparison to control. Conclusions: This meta-analysis showed that cinnamon alone and herbal mixture containing cinnamon improve level of FBS, fasting insulin, TG, TC, LDL, MDA, TT, and FT serum level.

Introduction The importance of seminal vesicle secretion and uterine Wnt signaling for uterus preparation and embryo implantation has been described. Materials and Methods In this study, we evaluated the gene expression of Wnt ligands (Wnt4 and Wnt5a) and their corresponding receptors (Fzd2 and Fzd6) using qRT-PCR and active β-catenin protein levels using western blotting in the uterine tissue of female mice mated with intact and seminal vesicle-excised (SVX) males during the pre-implantation window. We evaluated the association between these factors and implantation rates and embryo spacing. Results mRNA expression of Wnt4 and Wnt5a and active β-catenin protein levels decreased from Day 1 to Day 4, but reached a peak on the fifth day of pregnancy. Fzd2 also reached its highest level on Day 5. Fzd6 expression showed a decreasing trend towards the day of implantation. Lack of seminal vesicle secretion decreased Wnt4 and Wnt5a expression on Days 1 and 5 and β-catenin levels on Day 5. There were almost no significant differences in expression levels of the Fzd2 and Fzd6 receptors between groups. There were positive and negative correlations, respectively, between implantation rates and embryo spacing and Wnt4, Wnt5a and active β-catenin in the control group, but such correlations were not observed in the SVX-mated mice. Conclusions Significant changes occurred in the expression of several Wnt signaling members and there was a significant association between Wnt signaling and embryo implantation. Seminal vesicle secretion affects Wnt signaling in mice and consequently also affects murine embryo implantation.

IntroductionInfertility is defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse which involves 10%-15% of couples. Male factor is responsible for 40% of infertility cases. The leading cause of male infertility is impaired sperm production caused by various factors such as infections, genetic disorders, medications, aging, social and environmental factors (1-5). Oxidative damage due to free radicals is one of the major causes of idiopathic oligospermia, even with undesirable impact on the structure of sperm produces abnormal sperm. For example, in diabetic patients by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS), free radicals of nitric oxide cause oxidative stress and thus result in testicular insufficiency through affecting spermatogenesis and estrogenic pathways (6-8). Varicocele which has been observed in 19% to 41% of infertile men is a common cause of male infertility (9-11). Increased levels of ROS and oxidative levels (oxidative stress) is one of the proposed mechanisms for impaired spermatogenesis. Vacuole formation in testis tissue is a sign of oxidative stress and is associated with aging which can be neutralized by antioxidants (12)(13)(14)(15). Lack of vitamin A, elements such as flavonoids, carnitine, folate, zinc and selenium and overall reduction of antioxidants in the diet can be one of the reasons for infertility especially oligospermia and asthenozoospermia in humans (16-18). Antioxidants like vitamin E, vitamin C, glutathione, coenzyme Q10 and natural polyphenols such as flavonoids and phenolic acids by reducing the damage caused by free radicals, strengthening blood-testis barrier and protecting and repairing sperm DNA, are effective in the treatment of male infertility (19-21). Assisted reproductive techniques (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), zygote intra-fallopian transfer (ZIFT) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm insemination (ICSI) has solved many problems of infertility; however, due to high cost, they are not affordable by many of infertile couples. On the other hand, there are effective medications which are less expensive and available for a wide range of couples. The bioactive compounds in plant extracts are highly regarded because it is derived from natural sources and compatible with vital systems. Using herbal medicine to increase fertility and improve factors such as hormonal imbalance, oligospermia, low motility of sperm, prostatitis, varicocele, etc has been considered for a long time.
