Bireyin okuma becerisini kazanması ve geliştirmesi hem öğretim hem de sosyal hayatı boyunca oldukça önemlidir. Okurun yazarın ifadelerinden anlam üretebilmesi için süreç boyunca okuma stratejilerini kullanması gereklidir. Okuma stratejileri okuma öncesi, okuma sırası ve okuma sonrasında kullanılan stratejiler olarak gruplandırılmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, öğretmen adaylarının okuma stratejileri bilişsel farkındalık düzeylerini cinsiyet, bölüm, sınıf düzeyi, okuma materyali tercihi, yıllık okunan kitap sayısı, kitap türü ve araştırma yaptıkları materyal tercihine göre incelemektir. Araştırma betimsel araştırma yöntemlerinden genel tarama modelinde tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılında bir devlet üniversitenin çeşitli bölümlerinde öğrenim görmekte olan 302 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Karatay (2009) tarafından geliştirilen "Okuma Stratejileri Bilişsel Farkındalık Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Veri analizinde frekans, aritmetik ortalama, yüzde dağılımı ve çok değişkenli varyans analizi (MANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmen adaylarının okuma stratejileri bilişsel farkındalıkları cinsiyet, bölüm, sınıf düzeyi ve yıllık okunan kitap sayısı değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık gösterirken okuma materyali tercihi, kitap türü ve araştırma yaptıkları materyale göre anlamlı farklılık göstermemektedir. Araştırma sonuçları doğrultusunda bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
