Los productores de la Asociación Esperanzas para un Mejor Vivir - AESMEVI, vienen presentando problemas con la escasez de agua y un manejo ineficiente del recurso hídrico. Esta situación se ha venido agravando en las últimas décadas por efecto del cambio climático, pues, por el aumento de la temperatura y el aumento del CO2 ha generado cambios en los patrones de precipitación y ha contribuido con el aumento de eventos climáticos extremos. Frente a esta situación es necesario generar propuestas de un manejo eficiente del recurso hídrico. Es así que con AESMEVI se planteó un proyecto que contempló varias etapas como diagnóstico, ejecución y apropiación social del conocimiento para dar solución a la escasez de agua. Los resultados que se lograron fueron la construcción de 36 reservorios de capacidad de 20.000 litros, la construcción de 33 sistemas de reciclaje de aguas grises, la implementación de 33 sistemas de cosechas de aguas lluvias, la instalación de 36 sistemas de riego por microaspersión y se determinaron 36 láminas de riego para cultivos como durazno, aguacate, cítricos, guayaba y lulo. Recomendamos que estas soluciones se sigan trabajando con las comunidades, pues de este modo, garantizaremos el cuidado y protección del recurso hídrico para las generaciones futuras.
