Dissolved iron (DFe) supply from hydrothermal vents has emerged as an important component of the ocean iron cycle (Tagliabue et al., 2017). Moreover, as hydrothermally sourced iron is ventilated in the iron-limited Southern Ocean, there is an important link to the ocean carbon cycle (Resing et al., 2015;Tagliabue & Resing, 2016;Tagliabue et al., 2010). Consequently, there is a need to include hydrothermal DFe supply in ocean biogeochemical models to accurately represent the supply and cycling of this key micronutrient. Elevated iron signals have been observed in plumes above most mid ocean ridge systems (
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
