A sustentabilidade ambiental é um d os temas emergentes nas discussões sobre a mineração. Nesse sentido, delimitamos como locus de análise as relações entre atores sociais-Estado, mercado e sociedade civil-no que tange à questão da sustentabilidade na mineração, enquanto interesse público. O objetivo do estudo foi compreender a incorporação das dimensões sociais e ambientais no novo marco regulatório da mineração no Brasil. Especifi camente, procuramos analisar os interesses dos atores sociais no âmbito das relações entre Estado, mercado e sociedade civil sob a ótica da gestão social. Metodologicamente, esta pesquisa caracteriza-se como exploratório-descritiva e os dados foram coletados através de pesquisa bibliográfi ca e documental. Para as interpretações dos dados, foi utilizada a Análise de Discurso Crítica. Os resultados apontam para a priorização dos interesses econômicos em detrimento das questões sociais e ambientais, bem como restrições a deliberação pública e ações dialógicas. Observamos que o novo marco da mineração priorizou os interesses privados e estatais em detrimento da sustentabilidade e do diálogo com as organizações da sociedade civil. Assim, a gestão social como lente de análise revela um locus onde o protagonismo do interesse público é limitado. Sugerimos, no fi nal, caminhar na direção de uma gestão que seja compartilhada, transparente e voltada para o interesse público e a sustentabilidade. Ou melhor, é preciso mudar também o modelo de gestão caso o que se queira, seja a superação das condições sociais, econômicas e ambientais que atingem a maioria da população.
