O entendimento do ciclo hidrológico é importante para o controle da demanda hídrica de uma região, assim como para obter informações que contribua para um melhor conhecimento deste fenômeno de forma menos onerosa. Neste contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo a implantação do algoritmo SEBAL em uma plataforma livre, através do software SPRING e sua linguagem espacial para geoprocessamento algébrico - LEGAL. As análises foram feitas considerando o saldo de radiação à superfície (Rn), por se tratar de um processo importante dentro do balanço de energia, além de ser uma variável que influencia diretamente na evapotranspiração. O perímetro irrigado de Petrolina-PE/Juazeiro-BA foi escolhido como área de estudo para testar a eï¬ciência do algoritmo implementado, devido à sua importante atuação no cenário socioeconômico de toda a região. Todos os valores encontrados como resultados estão condizentes com a literatura, incluindo os trabalhos realizados na região. A implementação do SEBAL em um software livre e de código aberto, utilizando-se a linguagem LEGAL e imagens de satélite (LANDSAT 5 - TM), foi viável para obtenção de estimativa do saldo de radiação à superfície.
