Araucaria Stem Taper or Use of Artificial Intelligence Techniques ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to compare the performance of artificial intelligence techniques with taper functions and evaluate the effect of age on this estimate. The data set was comprised of 135 observations covering the ages 6, 12, 18, 24 and 43 years of age of a stand of Araucaria angustifolia. Adjusted taper functions were Kozak Schöepfer, Hradetzky and Garay modified. The artificial intelligence models used were: ANN and tree model. The input vectors are the same variables used in taper equations and also the same arrangement with the addition of age. 70% of the data was used for adjustment and 30% for validation. The taper function Hradetzky provided the best fit. Among the models evaluated, the ANN provided the best estimates, highlighting the ANN by adding the age variable. The performance of M5P was satisfactory, however, less effective than the other techniques.

Eficácia da arquitetura MLP em modo closed-loop para simulação de um Sistema HidrológicoEfficiency of MLP architecture on closed-loop mode for the simulation of a hydrological system ABSTRACTEstimatives of hydrological responses are needed for the watershed planning. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hydrological behavior simulation of the Upper Canoas basin using artificial neural networks Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) method, as well as to analyze the contribution of the input variables for modeling. It were tested 12 treatments with combinations of variables such as precipitation, evapotranspiration (ET0) and discharge, as well as transformations and temporal displacements of these variables, in order to determine the variables that promoted the better performance on discharge modeling. The MLP was trained in open-loop mode using part of the observed discharges. The discharges for the whole series were simulated in closed-loop, using the discharge simulated on the previous time step as input. The learning algorithm used was the Levenberg-Marquardt. The treatment with the best performance (NS = 0.9119, RMS = 14.29 m 3 /s) employed the daily precipitation of the four rainfall stations (Urubici, Vila Canoas, Lomba Alta e Anitápolis), precipitation of the four stations with -2 days of response time, and simulated discharge from the previous day. Despite the low RMS, the modeled discharge using MLP was generally overestimated.
Delimitation of potentials ecological corridors between the conservation units of the east region of Alto Iguaçu Basin-Parana ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was indicate routes potentials to ecological corridors implementation aimed at interconnection of Environmental Protection Areas (APAs) located in the eastern part of the Alto Iguaçu Basin. For that, we used a Geographic Information System where the classes were used: perimeter, use and land cover, digital terrain model and river networks of the Sub-Basin. The Analytic Hierarchy Process by Saaty with assignment of weights taking into account the permanent preservation area (APP), slope and land use and occupation for determining routes. The weights were defined based on literature. Six main routes were defined: two of the APAs of Iraí and Piraquara, one between Piraquara and Rio Pequeno and three between Rio Pequeno and Guaratuba. Corridors considered most suitable were selected per present the best configuration as the smaller, lower percentage area in the most cost steepness class (< 20º) and higher percentage of area located in priority classes of land use and land cover, resulting in the corridor between Irai and Piraquara, and between Rio Pequeno and Guaratuba. Thus, despite being a region with a high degree of human disturbance, it is clear that with the existing areas, it is still possible to perform connection between APAs.
ABSTRACTConcern about global climate change has motivated several researchers to find effective methods for the quantification of forest biomass and carbon stored in tropical forests, since they act in a mitigating and compensatory way. Remote sensing has been used effectively and with great potential for large scale estimation, with emphasis on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data and multispectral images. The studies already developed for this purpose have used several techniques to associate above-ground biomass (AGB) with the data obtained by remote sensing, however, the application of robust regression is not yet being used for this purpose. Thus, the objective of the present study is to evaluate the robust regression performance in comparison with the linear regression, that is traditionally used, besides evaluating the potential of the data from Sentinel 1 and 2 satellite. In this context, multispectral images (Sentinel 2), SAR image (Sentinel 1) and as variable response to AGB obtained from data Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR). AGB was estimated by two regression methods: robust and linear. The robust and linear regression models presented similar performance, with R²aj. ranging from 0.33 to 0.34, standard error of the estimate of 48 Mg.ha -1 and root mean square error of 16%. It is ...
