O agronegócio de flores e plantas ornamentais é de grande importância socioeconômica no Brasil. A cultura de rosas é afetada por muitas pragas, entre elas, os tripes (Insecta: Thysanoptera), que ocasionam danos diretos pela alimentação e/ou indiretos pela transmissão de viroses. Atualmente, o método de controle mais utilizado para essas pragas ainda é o químico, que causa diversos problemas para o setor agrícola, como a intoxicação de agricultores, contaminação ambiental, desequilíbrio biológico e a seleção de populações de pragas resistentes aos agrotóxicos. Esforços têm sido realizados visando à implantação de tecnologias mais sustentáveis, como o uso de inimigos naturais para o controle das pragas em roseiras e outras ornamentais.
