Celem niniejszego artykułu będzie wskazanie nowych wyzwań w podejściu do własnej kariery zawodowej wśród przedstawicieli pokolenia X i Y (pokolenie X, czyli osoby urodzone w latach 1965-1980, natomiast pokolenie Y stanowią młodzi ludzie urodzeni po roku 1980). W artykule zawarto prezentację wyników badań i opinii pracowników dolnośląskich przedsiębiorstw (przedstawicieli pokolenia X i Y) oraz studentów i absolwentów Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego we Wrocławiu (przedstawicieli pokolenia Y) dotyczących prezentowanego zagadnienia.
Słowa kluczowe: kariera zawodowa (tradycyjna i współczesna), tożsamość profesjonalna, zatrudnialność, pokolenie X i Y.
The article looks at the issue of different approaches to building a professional career among selected representatives of the Baby Boomer, X, and Y generations who graduated from the University of Economics in Wroclaw. Based on the study of literature that is available on the subject as well as empirical research, an attempt was made to identify basic expectations and attitudes towards work as exhibited by the examined graduates and to present recommendations for human resource management practitioners. The research was conducted in 2017 using the diagnostic survey method with an online survey questionnaire that was made available at the University of Economics. The results of the study indicate that there exist identifiable differences in approach to building a professional career that depend on generation association. Moreover, building what is known as cross–generational solidarity should be pursued in teams diversified in terms of age. This should be done with reference to various areas of the professional career—something respondents felt was missing. Representatives of the older generations, who hold valuable knowledge as well as experience and worldly wisdom, should act as mentors for younger coworkers. And vice versa, younger generations might assist their older colleagues in filling their competence gap in new technologies.
Summary:The research of the graduates' professional lives is a valuable source of information that enables verification and evaluation of the educational process and didactic offer in relation to challenges in the dynamically changing labor market. Moreover, it can be a valuable tool in modifying, improving and adapting the content of education to the needs of the modern labor market. The main objective of the article is to identify the conditions for the professional development of graduates and to get an answer to the question of how they perform in the modern labor market. The article is based on literature sources, available statistical data concerning the Lower Silesian Voivodship as well as the study of the professional careers of the graduates of the University of Economics carried on the occasion of the 70th anniversary Absolwenci Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego we Wrocławiu... 189of funding the university. The research was conducted using a diagnostic survey method with an online survey questionnaire that was made available at the University of Economics from March till May 2017.
Purpose:The article aims to study whether the significant differences in the values appreciated at work exist among surveyed representatives of the generations co-existing on the Polish labor market. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article is based on a critical literature review of the subject and the authors' research. The study was conducted in November 2020 on a sample of 1009 respondents from all over Poland. The research method used was a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire using the Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) technique. The obtained data were then subjected to statistical analysis (mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Tukey's posthoc test, Bonferroni correction test, Spearman correlation). Findings: The obtained results showed that regardless of the generational affiliation, the most critical EVP attributes are stability and security of employment, followed by relationships and high compensation and benefits. Although differences between given generation cohorts were confirmed, their emphasis was relatively moderate. Originality/Value: The need to consider the following was found. The demographic situation in Poland is designated by the process of progressive aging of the society, which results in the simultaneous presence of representatives of four generations of workers on the labor market -Baby Boomers, X, Y, and Z. Employers must be ready to address the challenges of creating the EVP strategy that can reconcile the requirements of different generations cohorts.
