Para impulsionar a produção madeireira no interior do Amazonas por pequenos produtores são indispensáveis os diagnósticos quali-quantitativos das formações vegetacionais, do conhecimento da composição florística e do potencial das espécies de interesse comercial, que são objeto dos Planos de Manejo Florestal Sustentável em Pequena Escala (PMFSPE). O estudo realizou a caracterização fitossociológica, análise da diversidade e similaridade de espécies comerciais em PMFSPE das Reservas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (RDS) do Rio Negro e do Rio Amapá. Foram estimados os descritores da estrutura horizontal (densidade, frequência e dominância e valor de importância), a diversidade da vegetação foi avaliada pelo índice de Shannon-Weaver, a uniformidade pelo índice de Pielou e a similaridade entre as espécies pelo índice de Jaccard. Foram amostrados ao todo 1.907 indivíduos, de 96 espécies comerciais amazônicas, distribuídas em 25 famílias botânicas, sendo as principais: Fabaceae (22,86%), Lauraceae (11,54%), Bombacaceae (10,54%), Moraceae (9,44%) e Lecythidaceae (7,81%). As espécies de maior valor de importância foram Polygonanthus amazonicus na RDS Rio Negro e Eperua oleifera na RDS Rio Amapá. Os valores para o índice de Shannon indicam diversidade alta para as reservas do estudo, porém não diferem significativamente entre as áreas. A equabilidade de Pielou indica boa uniformidade de distribuição dos indivíduos por espécie nas RDS analisadas. Há baixa similaridade entre as espécies que ocorrem entre as duas RDS e entre as comunidades.
