Introdução: Em função da limitação das áreas rurais ao acesso da infraestrutura de abastecimento de água dos centros urbanos, as nascentes são boas alternativas de fornecimento de água para as comunidades, podendo servir para diversos tipos de usos, como atividade pecuária, agricultura, abastecimento doméstico, dentre outros. O diagnóstico hidroambiental é uma ferramenta que prevê a capacidade da nascente de produzir água, por meio de uma análise ecossistêmica dos aspectos da nascente e suas imediações, possibilitando a partir da avaliação estabelecer métodos para reverter as condições adversas que causam impactos ambientais negativos ao recurso hídrico. Essa ferramenta apresenta a realidade hídrica na qual as nascentes se encontram e possibilita a partir da avaliação estabelecer métodos para reverter as condições adversas que causam impactos ambientais negativos ao recurso hídrico. Objetivo: O presente trabalho teve por objetivo realizar o diagnóstico hidroambiental por meio da caracterização de nascentes na sub-bacia do Ipaneminha, Ipatinga, MG. Material e Métodos: Inseridas na sub-bacia do Ipaneminha, Ipatinga-MG, quatro nascentes foram selecionadas para serem examinadas através de um diagnóstico hidroambiental, utilizando como mecanismo um formulário para aferir suas características a respeito do uso do solo, da água oriunda da nascente e da cobertura vegetal que a circunda. Resultados: Nenhuma nascente apresentou condições totalmente favoráveis para sua estabilidade e proteção, atentando à uma necessidade de intervenção adequada para reversão do cenário em que se encontram. Conclusão: A aplicação do formulário hidroambiental possibilitou a inspeção ampla acerca das particularidades das quatro nascentes estudadas na sub-bacia do Ipaneminha, MG, gerando dados que possibilitam elaboração de propostas para proteção e conservação de nascentes e que poderão subsidiar programas específicos de restauração ambiental que devem ser adotados pelos proprietários, pelos órgãos governamentais e outras entidades na Região Metropolitana do Vale do Aço.
