SUMMARY Tracheal Tube Damage Due to Harmonic Scalpel Use During Tonsillectomy: Case ReportHarmonic scalpel is used frequently in recent years because it reduces intraoperative tonsillectomy bleeding, postoperative pain and shortens the operation time. Harmonic scalpel is a surgical tool which is activated ultrasonically and used for cutting and coagulation at low temperatures (50-100°C). While the device is active, it is necessary to avoid contact with any metal, plastic or explosive/flammable materials because the long-term use would increase the risk of thermal damage In this paper we reported tracheal tube damage and airway management difficulties due to the use of harmonic scalpel.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
