Background: Mindfulness-based program incorporating meditation practices and self-efficacy are gaining popularity among cancer patients. The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of a mindfulness-based program and perceived self-efficacy for patients with lung cancer. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in the outpatient clinics and nuclear medicine clinic at the New Cancer Institute at Menoufia University, Shebien Elkom City, Egypt. A purposive sample of 160 patients with lung cancer was enrolled, from whom data were collected through 5 tools: Tool (1): Structured interview questionnaire including demographic and medical data, Tool (2): Condensed Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (pre/post), Tool (3): Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (pre/post), Tool (4): Self-Efficacy Pulmonary Rehabilitation Adapted Index (pre/post) and Tool (5): Questionnaire about mindfulness which includes knowledge, reported practice and five-facet mindfulness (pre/post). Results: This study displayed statistically significant improvements in symptoms (5.65 ± 1.33 to 3.00 ± 1.36), performance status (1.75 ± .83 to 2.25 ± .86), mindfulness (18.62 ± 2.32 to 29.75 ± 4.06), breathing meditation (1.17 ± 1.64 to 5.70 ± 1.60), self-efficacy (20.37 ± 2.93 to 33.32 ± 5.11), and knowledge (1.65 ± 2.36 to 13.17 ± 2.004) for patients with lung cancer after program application. Conclusion: Implementation of a mindfulness-based program and perceived self-efficacy have positive effects on improving physical and psychological symptoms, breathing meditation practice, performance status, and knowledge among lung cancer patients.
Diabetic food ulcer is one of the most prevalent long-term diabetic consequences, which has a significant financial and social impact on people, families, and the health system. It's also long-term consequence account for direct medical expenditures and lengthy periods of disability. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of integrating health belief model in a prophylactic diabetic foot care program on knowledge, beliefs, practices and risk for foot ulcer of diabetic elderly. Methodology: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized in this research. It was done at the medical outpatient clinics affiliated to Tanta University Hospitals. A purposeful sample of 300 older people with diabetes was selected. Two tools were utilized for data gathering. A structured interview schedule was the first tool with questions about the sociodemographics of senior patients, knowledge, reported practices, and perceived believes of diabetic elderly about foot ulcer. Second tool: A neurological foot and peripheral vascular examination was used as an assessment checklist to determine the risk of foot ulcers. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in elderly total knowledge (7% to 85.30%), reported practice (40.30% to 93.30%), total perceived beliefs (34.2455 to 44.9000) correspondingly pretest compared posttest. The degree of knowledge, reported practice, perceived believes, and foot ulcer risk scale of older diabetic patients improved after implementing the preventative diabetic foot care program. Conclusion and recommendation: there was a positive correlation between knowledge, reported practices, neurological and peripheral vascular risk exposure post applying program. Application of further research on large samples and other settings for generalization.
Background: Globe spread of Covid-19 had a momentous consequence on people of all nations, races, and socio-economic groups. Likewise, the rigorousness of the illness's incidence has increased melodramatically and challenged the responsibilities of nursing profession for keeping the population health. The present study aimed to assess competency-based transition training program for internship nursing students regarding COVID-19 variant using Benner's Model Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The study was conducted at 15 May Isolation Hospital Out-Patient Clinic, Egypt. A convenient sample that included 50 of internship nursing students. Tools: Two tools were used as Structured Interview that covers four parts as Part I: demographic characteristic, part II: internship nursing students' knowledge part III: internship nursing students' attitude, part IV: reported usual practices and 2 nd tool of Observational Checklist that cover one part as Benner's Model competency skills stage in (pre and post). Results: This study showed statistically significant improvement in internship nursing students' knowledge, attitude, usual reported practices and competency skills (45.68±6.84 to 90.80±11.50) (58.00±9.37 to 79.67±2.83) (54.74±7.93 to 68.37±1.15) (48.66±3.8673.60±5.17), respectively pre vs. post program with (p<0.05). Conclusion:The current study revealed importance of competency-based program for internship nursing students to improve their knowledge, reported practices, attitude and competency skills. Recommendation: Adopting of competency-based transition training program for nurses in different health care setting.
