Background: Wireless sensor networks are considered as one of the 21st century's most important technologies. Sensors in wireless sensor networks usually have limited and sometimes non-rechargeable batteries, which they are supposed to be preserved for months or even years. That's why the energy consumption in these networks is of a great importance. Objective: One way to improve energy consumption in a wireless sensor network is to use clustering. In clustered networks, one node is known as the cluster head and other nodes as normal members, which normal nodes send the collected data to the cluster head, and the cluster head sends the information to the base station either by a single step or by multiple steps. Method: Using clustering simplifies resource management and increases scalability, reliability, and the network lifetime. Although the cluster formation involves a time- overhead and how to choose the cluster head is another problem, but its advantages are more than its disadvantages. : The primary aim of this study is to offer a solution to reduce energy consumption in the sensor network. In this study, during the selection of cluster heads, Honeybee Algorithm is used and also for routing, Harmonic Search Algorithm is used. In this paper, the simulation is performed by using MATLAB software and the proposed method is compared with the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and the multi-objective fuzzy clustering algorithm (MOFCA). Result and Conclusion: By simulations of this study, we conclude that this research has remarkably increased the network lifetime with respect to EECS, LEACH, and MOFCA algorithms. In view of the energy constraints of the wireless sensor network and the non-rechargeable batteries in most cases, providing such solutions and using metaheuristic algorithms can result in a significant reduction in energy consumption and, consequently, increase in the network lifetime.
One of the most important issues in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is severe energy restrictions. As the performance of Sensor Networks is strongly dependence to the network lifetime, researchers seek a way to use node energy supply effectively and increasing network lifetime. As a consequence, it is crucial to use routing algorithms result in decrease energy consumption and better bandwidth utilization. The purpose of this paper is to increase Wireless Sensor Networks lifetime using LEACH-algorithm. So before clustering Network environment, it is divided into two virtual layers (using distance between sensor nodes and base station) and then regarding to sensors position in each of two layers, residual energy of sensor and distance from base station is used in clustering. In this article, we compare proposed algorithm with wellknown LEACH and ELEACH algorithms in homogenous environment (with equal energy for all sensors) and heterogeneous one (energy of half of sensors get doubled), also for static and dynamic situation of base station. Results show that our proposed algorithm delivers improved performance.
Background: Nowadays, the use of wireless sensor networks is developing rapidly. these networks are applicable in many fields, including military, medical, and environment. these networks use hundreds or thousands of cheap sensor nodes with low power-low and low energy to perform large tasks. These networks have limitations that can lead to inefficiency or not cost - effective. Among these limitations, consumption of energy and issues related to the lifetime of the network. One of the solutions that can assist the load balancing between sensor nodes, increased scalability, improving energy consumption and consequently, increasing network lifetime, clustering of sensor nodes and placing a suitable cluster head in all clusters. Choosing the right cluster head, significantly reduces energy consumption in the network and increases network lifetime. Objective: The purpose of this paper is to increase network lifetime by using the efficient clustering algorithm, which is used in Meta-heuristic bee colony to select the cluster head. Simulation of this paper is performed by MATLB software and the proposed method is compared with LEACH and GACR approaches. Conclusion: The simulation findings in this study show that the intended study has remarkably increased the length of the network lifetime by LEACH and GACR algorithms. Due to the limitation of energy in the wireless sensor network such solutions and using Meta-heuristic algorithms can give rise a remarkable increasing in network lifetime.
