The paper is a conceptual attempt to explore the new roles of technology in education which has increasingly become more than a sole medium, as was its description in the past. Basically, the key idea is that technology, with the powers of ICT, in education has now three main roles, namely: a medium/resource, a management, and a delivery. These new roles, when combined, could set the stage for restructuring the education institutions in an innovative way that leaves the current education system in history.
--This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a 3D-Virtual Reality Learning Environment the Omani 8th-grade students’ achievement and motivation towards physics learning. To achieve the study objectives, data were collected using two instruments: an achievement test and a motivation questionnaire. The sample consisted of sixty-five female students. They were divided into two groups, (32) students in the experimental group and (33) students in the control group. The findings of this research study indicated a greater improvement in students’ achievement in physics after using the 3D-VRLE compared to their counterparts in the traditional learning environment. Furthermore, the results showed that the 3D-VRLE has a positive effect on students’ motivation towards physics learning. In the light of these findings, the study recommended the importance of using the 3D-VRLE in the Ministry of Education schools. Research areas for future investigation in the field of the 3D-VRLEs were also suggested.
We describe a case of a healthy 61-year-old man who developed disseminated intravascular coagulation and venous thromboembolism secondary to acute Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. The EBV was confirmed via serology and polymerase chain reaction. Although more common in children and young adults, acute EBV infection may also occur in middle-age and older adults and should be considered as a differential diagnosis in every patient presenting with disseminated intravascular coagulation.
<p style="text-align: justify;">This study aims to investigate students’ attitudes towards e- book use, and its relationship to self-efficacy and academic motivation in Omani higher education institutions. The sample of the study, which was chosen based on the stratification random method, consisted of 200 students from both genders and different colleges and academic years. To achieve the aims of the study, a descriptive correlational approach was adopted using attitudes, academic motivation and self-efficacy scales developed by the researchers, and administered to the study sample after assessing their psychometric properties. Findings show generally a positive significant correlation between students’ attitudes towards e-book use, self-efficacy, and academic motivation.</p>
The purpose of this research was to address the current and prospective views on educational technology (ET) in order to discover the difficulties and develop its utilization in Omani higher education. The main instruments used to carry out this research were two questionnaires: the faculty members' questionnaire, and the technical/administrative staff questionnaire. One hundred and fifty-nine participants were involved in the study. They represented all educational technologists who have been with the public and private Omani higher education institutions. The findings show a tendency for future expansion with less expensive technologies and the need for training. Some impediments of ET use were also found. Important recommendations from this study include: the need to support Omani higher education institutions with technical and human resources to increase and activate the use/number of new instructional media and equipment.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of e-learning provision at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, from the students’ perspective. The study employed a 48-item survey comprising six domains of e-learning provision. The questionnaire was administered to a sample of 1,858 male and female students across all colleges. The results revealed that the quality of the e-learning provision in four of the domains was at an intermediate level. The results also showed statistically significant differences in the third domain (System Effectiveness) in favor of male students, whereas there were no statistically significant differences in the other domains or the overall score. The findings of the study lead to a set of recommendations that may help to contribute to the dissemination and improvement of e-learning culture in general and its quality in particular, as well as furthering its integration in the educational process.
