In this research polypyrrole (PPy) and polyaniline (PAni) conducting polymers which were synthesized chemically on the surface of wood sawdust (SD). These electroactive polymers as coated form on sawdust then were used for sorption or removal of silver ion from aqueous solutions under simple open circuit conditions. The effects of some important parameters such as pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage, and contact time on uptake of silver ion were also investigated in this research. The experiments were carried out using both batch and column systems at room temperature. The treatments of the data were carried out using both Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms. In order to find out the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the exhausted adsorbent, desorption studies were also performed. It was found that conducting electroactive polymers such as PPy or PAni are efficient sorbents for removal of the silver ions from aqueous solutions. Sorption/desorption processes can be simply carried out with pH control with satisfactory performance. Recovery percentage observed for PAni/SD in column study was more than PPy/SD and SD, under the same operational conditions.
This article deals with application of poly (3-methyl thiophene) synthesized chemically on the surface of wood sawdust (termed as P3MTh/SD) and then was used for removal of silver ions (Ag þ ) from aqueous solution. The polymer was synthesized directly on the surface of sawdust, which has previously soaked in monomer solution using ferric chloride as chemical oxidant. The sorption experiments were performed on both batch and column systems under simple open circuit conditions. The effects of some important parameters such as pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage, and exposure time on uptake of silver ion were investigated. The treatment of the data was also carried out using both Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms. To find out the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the exhausted adsorbent, desorption studies were also performed. It was found that sawdust modified with polythiophene is an efficient system for uptake or recovery of the silver ions from aqueous solutions.
This paper deals with a new application of polypyrrole (PPy) and polyaniline (PAni) electroactive polymers synthesized chemically, coated on sawdust and then used for removal of NO 2 -ions from aqueous solutions. Adsorption studies were performed using both batch and column systems at room temperature. The effects of some important parameters such as initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, and contact time on the uptake of NO 2 -ions were also investigated. PPy and PAni conducting electroactive polymers were found to be effective adsorbents for the uptake of nitrite ions from aqueous solutions. Adsorption studies have shown that pH of the nitrite solution has an important influence on the nitrite ion uptake. In order to find out the possibility of the frequent use of the adsorbent, desorption study was also carried out in this investigation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
