Abstract of the field research activities carried out in Peña Negra during 1986. From the architectonic point of view, the most relevant discovery was a round house from the Last Bronze Age. There are also new pottery forms, "grafited pottery", three principal groups of imported wheel-made pottery, new potter-marks on amphoras and a "coin-ingot" in the deposit from the Last Bronze Age.
This article sets out to present the analysis of 64 ceramic samples, of wheelmade vessels from Peña Negra II, which has been carried out by the Geology Department of Alicante University using petrological and mineralogical methods. Our aim was to determine the origin of ceramics found in the orientalizing level of the archaelogical site by means of mineral degreasing added to clay. The results have been processed with C. F. A. and classified in two defined groups, A and B. The first includes samples of foreign provenance, while the second represents local production. There is a third group (C) of only three samples awaitirig future definition. This is followed by discussion of problems arising in Peña Negra II pottery.
A revíew of the emergency excavations carried out in 1976 at the Portus Illicitanus is shown in this paper, as well as a view of the cultural stages which developed in that área. There is a catalogue of Imperial Román ceramics found during the excavations, where the specimens from Clara Lucente and Clara B, had been considered rare or nonexistent in this part of the Valencian country.
